Dr Ellie Atayee-Bennett
Sociologist
I am a sociologist interested in everyday ethical and sustainable practices, and how ethical and climatic crises influence and shape practice and identity. I am particularly interested in cultural values and principles and the role they play in sustaining practice.
My PhD explored ethics, values, and practices among a group of Muslim, Jewish, and Christian vegans to understand how ethical principles are interrogated and reinterpreted in response to modern ethical crises. My key finding was a nuanced expression of veganism: faith veganism. You can learn more about this at www.faithveganism.org.
I now work as a Lecturer in Sociology at Southampton Solent University where I teach a range of modules on migration and global crisis, bodies and identities, big data and technology, research methods, and professional practice.
